High mountain – Travel through the Andes from end to end on an unforgettable trip through Mendoza –
The majestic beauty of the Andes Mountains 🏔️ reaches its peak in Mendoza, Argentina. With a backdrop of towering snow-capped peaks, Mendoza offers easy access to stunning natural landscapes, combined with rich history and culture.
The province is not only famous for the production of Malbec wine 🍇, Mendoza also serves as a gateway to explore the Andes ⛰️. Numerous outdoor activities abound, from hiking 🏃♀️ and climbing 🧗♂️ to skiing 🎿 and rafting 🚣♀️. The mountains invite you to adventure.
We will visit:
Potrerillos
Its main attraction is an artificial lake, which was created by a dam on the Mendoza River 🏞️. The turquoise waters are perfect for swimming 🏊♂️, kayaking 🏄♀️, stand-up paddleboarding, and motorboating. There are sandy beaches dotted along the coast where you can relax 💆🏻♂️ and enjoy the views
The Mountain Town of Uspallata
Uspallata is a small mountain town 🏕️ strategically located on the route between Mendoza, Argentina and the border crossing to Chile. Surrounded by the stunning Andes Mountains ⛰️, Uspallata serves as a popular stopover point for those traveling between the two countries.
Penitentes Ski Center
Located in the high mountains of the Andes, near the border with Chile. It is a must see for winter sports enthusiasts ⛷️. At almost 10,000 feet above sea level, it has the highest ski lift in all of South America 🏂.
Inca Bridge
The Puente del Inca is one of the most emblematic sites on the route through the Andean mountains near Mendoza. This natural bridge crosses the 🚣🏻 Las Cuevas river, formed over thousands of years when the waters eroded the weaker surrounding rock.
What makes the Inca Bridge so visually striking is its vivid golden yellow color. This comes from the large deposits of sulfur and other minerals left by the hot springs that flow through the region.
Aconcagua
The highlight of any road trip to Mendoza is taking in the views of the imposing Mount Aconcagua 🏔️. Rising to 22,841 feet (6,962 meters), Aconcagua is the highest peak in the southern and western hemisphere. While most visitors do not attempt the difficult summit, you can still enjoy extraordinary views of this impressive mountain from several viewpoints along the way 🗺️.
The Caves of Las Cuevas
The caves have a long history of human use dating back more than 10,000 years, thanks to the indigenous people who took refuge here. Later, they served as part of an important trade route connecting Mendoza with Chile 🇨🇱 and the Pacific coast 🌊. People and pack animals stopped to rest and find relief from the elements within them as they traversed this mountainous terrain.
Today, visitors can take guided tours 🗺️ of the caves to admire these unique formations while learning about the natural forces that gave them their shape and the rich human history associated with them.
Visit the statue of Christ the Redeemer (only in summer ☀️)
One of the highlights of a summer visit to Mendoza is the opportunity to see the monumental statue of Christ the Redeemer that dominates the city. Inspired by the famous statue of Christ the Redeemer in Rio de Janeiro, this imposing figure stands with outstretched arms over Mendoza.
